I also have a wonderful friend who lives far from me but offers the same peaceful reset of my soul every time I see her.
By the way, I follow Carole on Instagram… there was something about your photos that looked familiar! It’s funny, but I find a little hygge in her photos too. ❤️ Thank you for sharing your adventure.
Hi AnnMarie, Carole is definitely hygge! It’s a small world isn’t it, I am very pleased you have found me and thank you for subscribing, lovely to meet you!.x
I can understand why:) I have a friend in Ontario, Canada, who’s home has the same comfy vibe. Her mom was Danish, so candles are a big part of her coziness.
Thank you, yes it is a magical place, so full of calm and joy. I loved it there and I think I have come home with a little bit of its sparkle, I feel very energised!
It’s a small world, David. I only met Carole on IG last year but I feel as though I’ve known her a lifetime, just one of those instant connections that happen out of the blue. The world works in mysterious and wonderful ways sometimes. 🙏
What another lovely post to read. You tease, revealing a little more of your self and then of the current. Perhaps the eye discomfort was meant to be so that you both saw a different side to each other. So pleased to hear the eye had no lasting damage.
What an absolute treat of such a delightful visit and stay. I can imagine how you might react in such a setting. Some people, like Carole, just have the knack of dressing a home. Not a show home, a home reflecting life and character. I am wondering if it’s in the name mind. I too have a very good friend called Carol. I’ve known my Carol for nearly 40 years. Each and every time I visit her home it feels me with joy. She too knows how to dress a home. Full of bits and pieces, books, art, travelled collections, trips to Islington’s antique market, forests, canal walks and gifts. Each visit different. I could sit in any room just looking and come away full up with joy, love and inspiration.
I’m so pleased your visit rejuvenated you and has inspired you and you got to met Gill as well. A double delight of wonderful people. Gems to make you feel wholesome.
Thank you Karen, it is so, so helpful and of course rewarding to receive feedback, I am very grateful you have taken the time to write such a lovely comment. You are very lucky to have had a good friend in your life for such a long time, something I missed out on and I regret now not making more of an effort to keep in touch with one or two very old friends from where I grew up. And your friend is called Carol, so she must be lovely! It was such a wonderful visit, Carole is so easy to be around and the parts of Scotland she took me to were breathtakingly beautiful making it very easy to fall in love with - I spent the train journey home googling house prices. I have definitely returned feeling inspired, Carole has a great knack of making you feel anything is possible, I feel as though I have had fairy dust sprinkled over me! Have a lovely weekend whatever you are doing, I hope the fox cubs sit still long enough to get a photo! Lots of love x
Oh Lindsey I’m rubbish at seeing responses. Yes I think there could be something in the name. I too have missed out on old friendships. I really struggle to trust people so often just walk away. My Carol is a gem, I would be lost without her. What a lovely feeling to feel like fairy dust has been sprinkled. The foxes have been back but are confused when Bertie is about. Always a delight to see xxx
Oh, Karen, really don’t worry - I find it difficult to keep up with anything at the moment! I’ve never been a girly, girly girl, if you know what I mean. I always felt a bit lost in a big group of girls and invariably ended up going off to do my own thing. If I could afford it I would love to be analysed by a psychiatrist, I think they would have a field day, the older I get the more I think I am a bit peculiar - as Michael keeps telling me!🤣🤪
Lindsey I cannot tell you how happy your words have made me - and I am so glad that you felt so at home in my little cottage. It holds my heart and to see it through your eyes and in your words means such a lot. Haste ye back x
Carole’s home is simply divine and so cosy. ‘Hygge’ reminds me of our Welsh word ‘cartrefol’ which is somewhere we all need in our lives whereby we feel at ease; feel the warmth inside us; and being surrounded by love. Long friendship like yours is something special to be nurtured at every opportunity Lindsey. I hope your eye is better by now ❤️
Cartrefol - I just had to google to listen to it being spoken. Such a beautiful word Meryl, I wondered if you ever use it, you describe its meaning so well. There's nothing like it in English, cosy is OK but it doesn't have that spiritual deeper meaning. My blooming eye - it was fine the next day, all that palaver for nothing! I hope all is good with you, I've got the heating on here, trying to make my house a little more cosy! Lots of love, x
Thank you Juliet, we did laugh as the next day I received an email from Boots asking what I thought of the service! A glorious few days though, just what the doctor ordered. x
The whole experience, apart from the eye mishap, sounds wonderful. I love houses like that. I have a friend who lives in an old farmhouse in the middle of the countryside in Ibiza whose house is just a cosy, bohemian dream. I trend that way too, whereas my husband likes everything clean and uncluttered! It’s a constant tug of chaos😂❤️
He-he - my husband is always telling me I have too much clutter, even in the garden. Although he is a lot bigger than me and I don’t take that into account when I’m moving things around sometimes. Poor thing, he’s either hitting his head on the door frames or tripping up over piles of books or plant pots. Thank you as always for your comment, Francesca. x
Lindsey, not only your words weave the warmth of your visit to Carole’s but also your photos capturing perfectly such an inviting space. Sounds like an all embracing hug of a visit where you can be yourself and share freely and then return home revived and inspired and full of a fresh new perspective. I loved the interviews between you both and now this is an added treat to the collection. 👏😊
What a beautiful reflective tale of friendship. Thankyou for sharing. X
Oh I love that - “hug of a visit” that’s exactly what it was, Audrey, a perfect description of my stay. Thank you, I am glad you liked the photos too, it was hard to chose which ones to post, everything was so interesting and wonderful. I’ve certainly come home with a spring in my step! x
Thank you so much AnnMarie!

Lovely to meet you too.
This sounds like a wonderful getaway, minus the pharmacy…
I love visiting somewhere that opens you up and allows you to breathe.
Thank you for sharing this post:)
Thank you Lisa, I wish I was there now to be honest!
I can understand why:) I have a friend in Ontario, Canada, who’s home has the same comfy vibe. Her mom was Danish, so candles are a big part of her coziness.
How wonderful! Thank you for sharing, looks like a magical place x

Fantastic 🤩
Homes like the one of your boss, you don’t sit comfortably….you perch!
Exactly, Kathryn, like a nervous bird waiting for a bigger bird to pounce!
What a beautiful home. No wonder you felt so at ease x
It was such a welcoming space, I have no doubt you would have felt at home there too. x
Thank you very much for sharing, David.x
What a beautiful space - the difference between a house and a home ✨ Also, I didn’t realise Carole was *that* Carole on Instagram 😂

That looks like a wonderful place to stay, glad you managed to have a lovely time once the Boots experience was behind you.

I adore a cozy home full of love. This story feels like a hug
That's exactly what it was like, Elizabeth, a big warm hug. Thank you so much for commenting. x

And I should have added the people themselves, of course, help create the atmosphere of a place.
Oh absolutely, being welcomed with a smile is always a good start.
