This is a lovely story and so well written. You have such a way with words, Lindsay. Now you should write a book! Thanks for sharing this. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much, Janet, how kind of you. I really do appreciate your comment, it means a lot, especially as it's my first attempt at a short story. A book sounds very daunting! Thank you for taking to the time to leave a message, it is much appreciated.

I’m so grateful to you for reading the story, Shirley. Thank you so much for letting me know you enjoyed it, your comment means a lot. A novel is a long way off I think, but I if I get time I might send Sheila and Bertie on another short adventure.

Awww Lindsey I loved this story and the way it grew slowly I wasn’t sure if her husband had passed but she didn’t seem sad just lonely, it had such structure to it and all the little things in life I recognised getting through the day, it was beautiful I wish there was more! What a talented lady you are. Hope your ankle is healing but what a lovely story to write while you’re out of action. Looking forward to seeing the next short story no pressure xx

You are very, very kind Liz. Thank you very much for your generous comment and thank you for taking the time to read my story, I am more than grateful. I was a bit nervous of posting it because of all the seasoned writers on here but I’m glad I did, the responses have been very encouraging. Thank you. x

I loved this Lindsey, you write with skill and I was hooked into the story very quickly . You have the gift of keeping your reader guessing - I was certain she was a widow for most of the story. I love your writing , do more ! Kind regards Callie

What an excellent and beautiful story; at first I thought Sheila's husband had passed away, perhaps slipped on the ice and banged his head, all because he was beyond frugal. But then the great reveal at the end.

Sheila is now having the time of her life, free from emcumbrances of a marriage gone wrong or never right. She has Bertie; she has Rita; she has her morning routine feeding the birds; and she has her garden of flowers.

Sheila is likely the freeest she has been in decades.

I am an oldtimer who still enjoys reading short stories, literary fiction, novels, etc., so this is right up my alley. It is a good story.
